A Primer on Perinatal Mental Health

Presented by Asha Clark-Carter, LPC

2 CEs

Historically, perinatal health concerns have been misunderstood by professionals despite the commonality of these conditions for pregnant, birthing, and postpartum people. Participants who join this training will receive a high level exploration of perinatal mental health (PMH) concerns including a brief history of PMH, signs/symptoms, diagnoses, causes, risk factors, and treatment options. Additionally, participants will learn about disparities in perinatal health care for people of color and the future of PMH.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the history of PMH

  • Explore specific perinatal diagnoses including symptoms, causes, risks, and treatment options

  • Identify disparities in perinatal mental health care and how future efforts can improve equity
